Next Student Meeting:
Welcome to the Spring 2020
Fall Parent Meeting, September 17th
So much to discuss!
We have a change in one of our venues! Instead of going to Congo Bongo on the Caribbe side, we have selected a lodge on the Pacifico side called La Casinga Lodge! I will share more about this when we meet.
I have secured tickets for us, however, they are expensive (zoinks!).
Right now, student tickets are running $1100. That is more than I had hoped, and I have some plans to help reduce that by doing some fundraising to offset the cost of my Administrator and me.
I have spent an inordinate amount of time with Airlines (AK, United, Delta, Jet Blue, American Airlines)
and for now, I believe these tickets will best suit our needs. Please know that should our rates drop between now and our departure both airlines (United and Alaska) will honor those lower rates and alter our fare accordingly.
I was determined to keep this intensive at the $2500 price point, and I am struggling with that. We do have some options, which I will discuss at the Parent meeting, but here are some options
1. Leave it and come up with the extra - right now we are at $3175
The Sustainable Living School (6 nights, transport from the airport, all meals
Four nights at La Cusinga with Kayaking, snorkeling, and a boat ride to snorkel at Cano Islands
Transport back to San Jose
A hotel for the night before we leave (we depart at 10 am)
Taxi fare to the airport
2. We can stay one less day at La Cusinga Lodge, which would bring it down $175
3. Consider a totally different place - La Bolita Hostel
Bolita Hostel has no refrigeration for food, and fewer activities, and is not on the ocean, but it is still cool and much cheaper. It would bring the cost down by around $400
My instinct, after traveling and planning is that we should keep our current arrangements and try to raise money. I do have a GoFundMe account, but do not know how to run it......
First Parent Meeting, May 9th
Here is the powerpoint presentation, minus the explanation and subsequent discussion.
Thank you all for coming. When the new school year starts, I'll share what has transpired since we met May 9.
Thank You for Joining!
We will have many things to discuss over the coming months, but here is some information to start building our trip with:
We are traveling to TWO ecolodges and we will tentatively stay five days at each with a day of travel on either side.
Check out the links below to see where we are going!
Rancho Margot Sustainable Living EcoLodge
La Cusinga Lodge
The most important thing regarding our travel is our safety. If one person has a serious illness or injury, we are all impacted. Therefore, we will implement strategies to protect ourselves and do our best to insure we have the most incredible trip ever. Our strategies will be education, planning, and preparedness.
Some items at the top of the list on preparedness would be precautionary and responsive medications.
1. Medications - antibiotics for diarrhea and prescribed sub-lingual dissolvable anti-vomiting medication (Odansetron); and basic over the counter meds such as Tylenol, Benadryl, etc.
2. Immunizations - Hepatitis is the most common, and Typhoid is recommended, see the link to the right for information regarding these immunizations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
